Meghann and Dane are probably some of the nicest people you will ever meet. They have lived, sleep, breathed this journey of opening The Intersection: Fair Trade. Starting as an online and going to markets only, to opening their doors at the Brick and Mortar in Clayton Heights, Surrey.
What do they sell you might ask? You can pick up Coffee, Sugar, Jewellery, Pajamas, shirts, Dresses, Purses, Backpacks, Kids slippers, Journals, Wallets, Beer tasting journals, salad tossers, placemats, toques, aprons, musical instruments, baskets, cards, etc. You can go in (or look online) and grab a plethora of items you need in your everyday life.
What is the most important thing you need to know about The Intersection? Meghann and Dane are very strict when it comes to what they sell. The main heart and drive towards this store is to help those who have been trafficked across the globe find dignity in creating and earning money. Fair Trade isn’t just a fancy word we North American’s like to use to feel better about our purchases, it truly means fairly trading product for the price.
Will I be able to afford these items? Usually, fair trade means expensive? If you go in you will be shocked by how reasonable each item costs. Meghann and Dane don’t believe in elitist price. They believe business is better. So instead of you needing to save up to buy one item, they have their prices at a point where you can purchase a toque for $20-$30 instead of having to save up every last penny to “make a difference”. Every item sold has a story of who made your clothes, salad tossers, etc. Most even have a handwritten name sharing who actually made it for you, followed by the organization that they got the item from and what they are doing to help reach those in need.
